Instructions and how to use

Used to fight against the evil eye. Burn seeds on fire with a metal spoon and they make a popping sound, then circle the smoke around one's head to take away the evil. Also used the same way for salty eyes of people (cheshme shoor). This is battle of logic versus myth.

Side effects

May cause advers effects such as neuro-sensorial symptoms, visual hallucination, hypotension, agitation, tremors, abortion and vomiting. Therefore this seed must be used cautiously.

Pregnancy and lactation

Peganum Harmala is contraindicated during pregnancy due to abortive activities. Same applies for breast feeding mothers.

Drug interactions and dosage

Interacts with opioid, dopamine, benzodiazepine, imidazoline and drugs metabolism. Therapeutic doses of seeds is between 4-9 gr, low doses of seeds (25 to 50 mg ) are mildly stimulating and may cause agitation or depression, whereas higher doses (300 to 750 mg ) have hallucinogenic effects. High doses can be toxic and can lead to liver degeneration, paralysis, euphoria and convulsions.
